Book - Willem Hendrik Schukking

SKU: 280190

Book - Willem Hendrik Schukking, een sprong in de wereld der aviatiek, written by Wim Adriaansen.

With the arrival of the balloon for aerial reconnaissance in 1886, aviation entered the Dutch armed forces.
During that period, the German Otto Lillienthal made the first successful flight tests with a glider plane in his native country.
In America, Chanute and the Wright Brothers follow. The young Willem Hendrik Schukking, who became an officer after his training at the KMA, devotes a thorough study to the flights of the pioneers.
On July 28, 1908, he was the first to make a number of flights above Dutch soil with an aircraft he built himself, using the Wright Glider model.
In 1911, Schukking wrote a treatise on the use of the flying machine for military purposes, based on an extensive study. He wouldbecome 'pionier avant la lettre'.
Thus, its founding, July 13, 1913, can be seen as the date of birth of our current Royal Air Force.
