That is the beginning of gliding in the Netherlands as an organized sport. They are not the first.
On July 28, 1908 Willem Schukking made the first jumps with a heavier-than-air aircraft over Dutch soil from De Stompert near Soest, with a glider pioneered by him, after an example of the Wright brothers in the United States.

Wim Adriaansen is a board member of the Historical Gliding Archive Foundation and of the Dutch Society for Military History Mars & Historia.
